Our Member Spotlight is on Cathy McJannet RN, MN, CEN, HTCP/I

Meet our Member Cathy!

Cathy McJannet’s professional background is centered around nursing, both as a clinician and a nurse educator, as well as a nursing officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. Her background is diverse, related to nursing and includes experience as a nursing educator in the hospital setting and the academic setting, as well as serving as a peer evaluator for nursing programs across the country. She served as director of Nursing and Occupational Health Programs at a college in San Diego for a number of years and taught Healing Touch courses at the community college. A number of nursing students had an opportunity for clinical rotations in the Integrative Care Dept. at a local hospital.

Cathy started on her Healing Touch journey in 1997 when she was told that she had to teach “a bit” of integrative care to the nursing students and thus took her first Healing Touch course. Cathy became a Certified Healing Touch practitioner in 2004 and an Instructor in 2005. Her Healing Touch practice is almost entirely in the hospital setting, primarily in the emergency department. She recently retired as a clinician in the emergency department and transitioned to being hospital volunteer. She continues to teach Healing Touch Level 1 and Level 2 for her healthcare system. Cathy is the lead volunteer for Integrative Care and Clinical Volunteers at her Planetree certified hospital (https://planetree.org).  She has extensive experience in provision of Healing Touch for patients with diverse medical issues in the acute care hospital setting.

In this Member in the Spotlight, you will hear about:

  • What it was like for Cathy teaching HT at the community college
  • Cathy's experience using Healing Touch in the emergency department hospital setting
  • Suggestions on how to bring up the topic of healing touch to a patient
